Ana Mendieta (b. 1948, Havana, Cuba; d. 1985, New York) got famous for her earth-body performances. She was a significant transmedial and feminist artist, who worked with sculptures, paintings, land art and video to explore issues of the body, earth, and place. In 1985 she died in Greenwich Village at a fall from a 34th floor. Ana Mendieta studied at University of Iowa.
