The Carnegie Museum of Art was one of the first American museums to make a serious commitment to contemporary art. An International Legacy presents the particular strengths of the Carnegie's collection as episodes in a history of contemporary art. This touring exhibition of 48 works surveys the most dominant trends in art of the last 30 years, including Minimalism, Conceptualism, Neo-Expressionism and Post-Minimalism. Stylistic developments in photography, video and multi-media installation are featured in the exhibition, as well as works depicting the renewed enthusiasm for figurative painting. Sculpture, painting, photography, video and installation work by (among others) Carl Andre, Andy Warhol, Nam June Paik, Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter, Damien Hirst, Kara Walker, and John Currin - many of the most prominent practitioners in contemporary art-are included. Presenting An International Legacy at the Columbus Museum of Art will provide a comprehensive context for our recently reinvigorated program of collecting and exhibiting art of our time. This exhibition is organized by the American Federation of Arts and Carnegie Museum of Art and is made possible in part by a grant from The Henry Hillman Foundation.
