Einblick in ein Zugabteil, vollkommene Dunkelheit im Tunnel vor dem Fenster. Viele Fahrgäste schlafen, einige lesen oder starren vor sich hin. Im Kontrast zur Bewegungslosigkeit der Szene die Vorhänge: Operationssaalgrün fliegen sie aufgeregt durch die Zugluft der offenen Fenster, ein Augenzwinkern zur Melancholie, die von den müden Menschen ausgeht.

Marion Schebesta zeichnet Momente mit der Kamera auf und Archiviert sie. P A A L O B, der Titel der Sammlung, verweist auf Anfangsbuchstaben von Orten, an denen die Szenen sich abgespielt haben. Unter den Fundorten der ca. drei Minuten langen Sequenzen sind Paris oder auch Aachen, P A A L O B hingegen ist mitten unter uns. Wir haben es nur noch nicht bemerkt, denn dazu bedarf es des besonderen Blickwinkels von Marion Schebesta. Sie isoliert alltägliche Szenen aus ihrem Umfeld und gibt ihnen einen eigenen Rahmen, so dass die Struktur des Geschehens deutlich hervortritt. Die Künstlerin untersucht die geografische Wirkung von Orten auf seine Bewohner, dokumentiert das Gefüge von Architektur, Kultur und anderen ortsspezifischen Einflüssen, welche den Menschen des urbanen Raumes in bestimmten Kombinationen umgeben.

Blickfang der aktuellen Ausstellung ist eine Fotografie der Kuppel des römischen Pantheons. Wie ein Scheinwerferstrahl fällt das Licht durch die zentrale Öffnung.

Wie ein Uhrzeiger durchschreitet der Strahl den Raum, wandert über den Fußboden und die Köpfe der Anwesenden. Wo das Licht hinfällt, wird etwas hervorgehoben, wie im Pantheon, so auch anderswo. Dunkelheit entsteht bei P A A L O B bisweilen auch durch die Nähe zum Objekt, sind es doch die Menschen selbst, die das Licht dämpfen und als Silhouetten im Vordergrund erscheinen. Während also schattenhafte Touristen vorbeihasten, bleiben im Bildhintergrund zwei Leute stehen. Sie sind in gleißendes Sonnenlicht getaucht und diskutieren gestikulierend über den weiteren Weg, zeigen in verschiedene Himmelrichtungen, blicken sich suchend um.

Die Sammlung eröffnet einen Blick auf den öffentlichen Alltag, auf Austauschbares und Besonderes, manchmal auch auf unfreiwillig Komisches, auf die etwas andere Erscheinung einer uns bekannten Welt.

A view into a cabin of a railway car, complete darkness in the window in the tunnel. Many passengers are asleep, some are reading or just staring. In contrast to this motionless scene, the green curtains are hectically flying through the air stream of the open windows, a blink to the melancholy that begins from the tired people.

P A A L O B, the title of this collection, stands for the capital letters of locations in which the scenes have taken place. Each video scene sequence is approximately three minutes in length, and includes such locations as Paris and Aachen, but the idea of P A A L O B is everywhere among us. We only have not noticed it before because finding it requires the particular angle of view of Marion Schebesta. She isolates the daily scenes of her surrounding field and gives them their own frame, thus the very structure of the action is evident. The artist analyses the geographical impact of places to their inhabitants, documenting the position of architecture, culture, and other influences specific to the location which surrounds the human being of the urban space in a certain combination.

The focal point of the current exhibition is the photograph of the cupola of the roman Pantheon. Like a spotlight, the ray of light falls through the central opening. And like the hands of a clock, the ray marches through the space, wandering over the floor and the heads of the visitors. Wherever the light hits, something is becoming exposed, like in the Pantheon as well as in other places. Sometimes darkness develops with P A A L O B because of the close distance to the object, the people themselves turn down the lights and their silhouettes appear in the foreground. While tourists rush shadowlike allover, in the background two people are standing. They are dipped in bright sunlight and discussing which way to go next, using gestures, pointing in different directions, searching around.

The P A A L O B collection presents an intimate view into public daily life: the random and the particular, and sometimes the inadvertently silly. It reveals an unusual appearance to the world known to us.
