Guillaume Leblon

‘‘Le paradoxe du bord’’ s’inspire d’une reflexion du philosophe grec Archytas qui au IVe siècle avant J-C formule le paradoxe qui vise à démontrer l’absurdité de l’idée d’un bord matériel a l’univers : «Si je me trouvais à la limite extrême du ciel, autrement dit sur la sphère des fixes, pourrais-je tendre au-dehors la main ou un bâton, oui ou non ? Certes il est absurde que je ne puisse pas le faire ; mais, si j’y parviens, cela implique l’existence d’un dehors, corps ou lieu. On avancera donc sans cesse, de la même manière, vers la limite sans cesse atteinte, en posant la même question et, comme ce qu’atteindra le bâton sera sans cesse autre, il est clair que cet autre est aussi illimité ».

IrmaVepLab a invité Guillaume Leblon pour l’ouverture de cette nouvelle saison. Il proposera un travail spécifiquement élaboré pour le lieu. Guillaume présentera un plafond modulaire suspendu dans le théâtre atypique de Musidora. Il convoque avec ce travail le passé du lieu, un possible décor sur ou sous lequel l’intrigue se situerait.

Les espaces dessinés par Guillaume Leblon sont des environnements stylisés sur lesquels ont été opérées des altérations subtiles mais décisives. Des lieux à traverser dans lesquels des traces plus ou moins visibles ont été laissées. Guillaume Leblon développe un dialogue entre la rigueur moderniste et minimale des formes, des structures où la sensualité est sublimée par les matériaux choisis.

The paradox of the edge takes as a starting point a reflexion of the Greek philosopher Archytas who In IV siècle before J-C formulates the following paradox aiming at showing the nonsense of the idea of a material edge of the Universe: ‘‘If I would be at the extreme edge of the sky, in other words on the sphere of the fixed ones, could I hold out the hand or a stick, yes or not? Of course it is absurd that I cannot do it; but, if I reach that point, that implies the existence of an outside, body or place. We will go on constantly, in the same way, towards the limit constantly reached, by asking the same question and, as what the stick will reach will be constantly different, it is clear that this other is also unlimited’’

IrmaVepLab invited Guillaume Leblon for the opening of this springtide. He will propose a work specifically made for the space of IrmaVepLab. Guillaume will present a modular cei-ling suspended in the atypical theatre of Musidora. He convenes with this work the past of the place, a possible decoration where above or under the intrigue could take place. The spaces drawn by Guillaume Leblon are stylized environments on which were operated subtle but decisive deteriorations. Places to cross in which more or less visible traces were left. Guillaume Leblon develops a dialogue between the modernistic and minimal rigour of the forms, of the structures where the sensuality is sublimated by selected materials.
