press release

Wunderkammer’ is Mendelson's most ambitious site specific project to date. Spending a month in the gallery, she covered the entire space with wall-drawings, that are going to be destroyed after the exhibition period. For the artist, this temporality is an important part in their creation: comparing the process to ‘building elaborate sandcastles before a high tide’, they become almost performative - freed from their longevity the work is left behind once the making is over. ‘Wunderkammer’ is a fictional version of the show, drawn onto the walls of the gallery as if it was hung. Individual elements of the wall-drawings are phantoms of the actual ‘physical’ works that the artist has prepared for the exhibition, but that can only be seen on request.
