press release

Vija Celmins was born in Latvia and emigrated to the United States in 1948. Her extensive use of grey and almost photorealistic technique give her works a sense of being that is situated outside a specific time and place. As part of The Paradise series, five prints will be exhibited, which will take as their subjects fine spider webs and night scenes. Her works contain a tension between an almost tangible sense of space and painstaking sensuous detail. They have an extraordinary delicacy and elegance of imperfection.

The Douglas Hyde Gallery gratefully acknowledges the warm support and interest of the Timothy Taylor Gallery, London. Pressetext
