press release

Artist Carrie Gundersdorf explores images of outer space and movement through cosmic time in her new abstract, colored-pencil drawings. The six large-scale featured works consist of bars of color against atmospheric backdrops based on astrophotography. They express not only what is seen, but also what can be imagined about cosmic space. The exhibition opens during First Fridays on August 6.

Gundersdorf's abstract compositions reveal light spectrums and articulate the movements of stars and planets through space. The marks and imperfections of the drawings lend a human quality to a subject matter that is largely rooted in meticulous scientific documentation.
