press release

The exhibit "Parallel Realities" places side by side the work of five contemporary Tibetan artists Kelsang Lamdark, Tenzing Rigdol, Tsherin Sherpa, Gade und Nortse.

Curatorial statement by Tsherin Sherpa: "The inherited language of traditional Tibetan art continues its transformation into contemporary contexts. Being apart from Tibet, each artist integrates the symbology of their localized surroundings back into the reality of the Tibetan diaspora. Working across the globe from Switzerland, New York City and California ties in many perspectives, personal stories and projections. Not only their local and personal realities but those of the Tibetan Diaspora effect their work. In another dimension, Tibet itself exists differently in many realities, seen as both part of China yet something absolutely separate from it. It continues to exist as both a mythological Shangri-La and an occupied country. Through the exploration of the many facets of the whole, I hope a larger dialogue may begin to emerge."
