press release

Marc Jancou Contemporary is pleased to announce the first New York solo show of German artist Tim Berresheim. In this new body of work, Berresheim continues to explore the relationship between technology and painting, resulting in a dynamic group of works that alternate between abstraction and figuration. Images of disembodied limbs and graphically rendered hair are decontextualized to create startling and bizarre juxtapositions. A bold sense of color and strong use of line define these works, employing technology in an inventive new way. In a style akin to that of Albert Oehlen or Christopher Wool, Berresheim challenges the history of mark making and the status of painting in an embrace of new media.

Tim Berresheim (b. 1975) lives and works in Cologne. Recent solo exhibitions include Patrick Painter Inc., Los Angeles and Galerie Hammelehle and Ahrens, Cologne. Group exhibitions include Sammlung Grässlin, St. Georgen, Germany; Kunstverein Möchengladbach; UBERBAU, Düsseldorf; and Autocenter, Berlin. Together with Jonathan Meese, Berresheim produces experimental electronic music and videos under his label New Amerika; he recently produced his first solo album on the label Eventuell. Berresheim also organized a number of exhibitions with Michael Bauer at Brotherslasher in Cologne during 2003.
