Sophie Calle Un certain regard
June 8–August 25, 2019

One of the foremost artists of our time, Sophie Calle (*1953) tells stories through photographs and combines them with the written word. The exhibition Un certain regard at Fotomuseum Winterthur comprises five work series that deal thematically with the representation of absence: with images that have disappeared and been removed from sight. The exhibition was developed by director Nadine Wietlisbach in close cooperation with Sophie Calle. It combines series—most of them created over the last 15 years—that translate Calle’s creative output into a distinctive and singular experience, to be presented now for the first time in Switzerland in a monographic exhibition.

Kindly supported by Ringier AG, Landis & Gyr Foundation, S. Eustachius-Foundation and Else v. Sick Foundation.

Sophie Calle – Un certain regard has been developed as the first part in a two-part exhibition in cooperation with Kunstmuseum Thun. Sophie Calle – Regard incertain will be shown at Kunstmuseum Thun from September 7-December 1, 2019.
