Potent/Present: Selections from the Vicki and Kent Logan Collection represents the West Coast debut of a number of recent ground-breaking works of photography and sculpture by both emerging and established artists.

The exhibition's 13 works range from the large-scale photographs of Mat Collishaw and Rut Blees Luxemburg, which invite viewers to project their own narratives and fantasies into their images; to Tracey Emin's The Hut (1999), a former oceanside cottage that appears abandoned and incongruous in its transplanted gallery setting; to Sam Taylor-Wood's Soliloquy VI (1999), a panoramic photograph paired with a larger, single-frame image in a tense, silent association. With Untitled (Twenty-Four Switches) (1998), Turner Prize–winning sculptor Rachel Whiteread preserves and suspends the potential power of a simple light switch. The Chinese migrant workers standing in a Beijing pond in Zhang Huan's Raise the Water Level in a Fish Pond (Distant) appear both defiant and attentive, disconnected beings engaged in what paradoxically seems a collective action.
