press release

Trained as an architect, Mexican artist Pedro Reyes explores the ways in which a space can be created to combine utopian ideas as well as function. 47 Sculptures, drawings, models, props, and video footage reveal the progression of the artist's conceptual strategies that precede the final product. The works included in this exhibition serve as a non-hierarchical collection of fragments, illustrating ideas related to social psychology, economy, structural engineering, and architecture. This exhibition abruptly halts the process of viewing art, and substitutes it with participation into the evolution of the artist's work.

Reyes' work has been exhibited at institutions throughout the world, including the South London Gallery; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Aspen Art Museum, Colorado; the Reina Sofia, Madrid; Yvon Lambert Gallery, New York; the Jumex Collection, Mexico City; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; Kunstwerke, Berlin; Museo-estudio Luis Barragan, Mexico City; the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; Witte de With, Rotterdam; the Seattle Art Museum, Washington; and the Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University, Cambridge, USA.
