Pamela Jorden

Klaus Von Nichtssagend Gallery is pleased to announce the first New York solo exhibition for Pamela Jorden, a Los Angeles based artist. The exhibition will feature several recent oil paintings. There will be a reception for the artist November 6, 2004 from 7 - 10PM.

There is an alchemy to Jorden's painting; a perfect tension between the complexity of the forms and the simplicityof the marks. The intimate size of these works gives way to an expansiveness of scale. With scribbles and bold blocks of color that initially appear to be casual marks, these paintings gradually reveal depth and intensity in their labyrinthine compositions.

The following is a statement from the artist: Painting is a process, a dedication of time to an experiment or a problem with an unknown conclusion. For me painting involves a mutable logic that extends through a series of arrangements comprised of shapes and lines that have associations to handwriting, doodles, cartoons, graffiti, and gesture. There is a tension of figure and ground, but also of scale and space. Color has weight and gravity imposes structure. There is architecture and erasure. My paintings are arrangements of interruptions that challenge explanation.

Pamela Jorden was born in Tennessee, where she received a BFA from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, then moved to Los Angeles and received a MFA from CalArts. She has shown recently in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington DC.
