Oliver Godow: Nicht Meher

Oliver Godow, possesses the rare ability of framing the formal in everyday life. Often choosing to photograph the flux of architecture in both ruin and renovation, his images resonate with a distinctive sculptural sensibility.

The ten colour prints selected for this solo exhibition represent a new body of work shot in the north east of England, London, and Berlin. These works are punctuated with fades of colour caught in the process of their inevitable absence. A yellow glare of disposable tablecloth, the blush from a lilo’s shadow, and the histories hidden by re-decoration are some of the subjects brought to the surface of these painterly large-format prints.

Oliver Godow was born in Lubeck, Germany. He studied at Bournemouth University and completed his MA in Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art in 1997. Godow’s work has recently been the subject of solo exhibitions at Kerava Art Museum, Finland (2006); Konsthall Lund, Sweden (2003); Kunstverein Lingen, Germany (2002). He has shown his work in group exhibitions at The Photographers’ Gallery, London (1999); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2000); Portrait:Berlin, touring from Washinton DC to Trieste Art Museum. From 2002 to 2004, Godow was commissioned by Camden Arts Centre in London to document its refurbishment. The resulting images from this commission were publicly exhibited as billboards in the London Underground. Oliver Godow was recently awarded a one-year residency by the City of Zurich and divides his time between Zurich and the UK.
