NATURA VIVA
10.08.2017 - 10.09.2017

NATURA VIVA is inspired by the philosophy of biodynamic agriculture and the idea of creating a garden where all natural elements complement and support each other. This harmonious system is the centennial dream of botanists and agronomists who saw a great potential for development in nature. Intuitively and empirically, the laws of biodynamics have been used by our predecessors as well.

The exhibition NATURA VIVA transfers the metaphor of the “garden of paradise” into art. The farming term “permaculture” is directly applied to art and its pressing need of balance, mutual support and acceptance of differences. Artists focus on the image of nature, on the wisdom and vitality of plants, and communicate with each other to search for a measure of balance and harmony that is rarely achieved in real life.

One of the emblematic examples of permaculture has been known from the time of the Mayas and the Incas: the symbiotic combination of corn, pumpkin and beans. Each of the three plants contributes to the development of the rest. The beans use the tall cornstalk for support, and the pumpkin keeps the roots of the other two plants in the shade. This illustrative example is directly demonstrated in the gallery and metaphorically reflected in the exhibition. Art and nature are easily mixed so that art can talk about nature while taking in her valuable lessons.
