Monochrome painting began in 1918 with Malevich's White on White. Monochromatism springs from two sources: the mystical and the concrete. The exhibition traces the different positions adopted by monochromists during the 20th century through a selection of around 100 works -paintings, sculptures and installations- organized in various sequences from the historical precedents with colour (white, black, gold, red, blue and silver) to the use of light and movement.
