press release

Gió Marconi invites the emerging German architects KUEHN MALVEZZI and artist MICHAEL S.RIEDEL after their much acclaimed 2005 Berlin show to exhibit the second part of Momentary Monuments in Milan.

KUEHN MALVEZZI (Wilfried Kuehn, Johannes Kuehn, Simona Malvezzi) have become known as architects of the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection in Berlin. In 2002 they refurbished the Binding Brewery in Kassel for Okwui Enwezor’s Documenta 11 and regularly work in the field of modern and contemporary art designing exhibitions for the leading museums and art institutions in Germany and Austria. MICHAEL S.RIEDEL founded and ran the exhibition space Oskar von Miller Strasse 16 in Frankfurt before he became internationally known with exhibitions in Vienna (Wiener Secession and Gabriele Senn Galerie) and London (Frieze Art Fair) and most recently with his solo show at David Zwirner in New York.

In Milan KUEHN MALVEZZI and MICHAEL S.RIEDEL will once again work together on the installation of an exhibition featuring recent work by the architects. Following their Berlin experience they will transform the first floor of Gio Marconi Gallery into a spatial event addressing the questions of presentation and representation.

While KUEHN MALVEZZI present their projects, RIEDEL presents the presentation of the architects by using strategies of duplication and imitation. The show also reflects the 2004 gallery design by KUEHN MALVEZZI for Gió Marconi, introducing a different view of the normally invisible office spaces through an architectural photograph by CANDIDA HOEFER installed in the exhibition. Two exhibition catalogues designed by the architects and the artist complete the Berlin and Milan shows.
