press release

The Museu Serralves is to celebrate Maria Nordman’s work development in city neighborhoods – where people live and work. This is a major “PROTO-SPECTIVE” exhibition of her works, combining projects produced in cities from 1967 onwards, together with works to be unveiled for the first time. Each of Maria Nordman’s works contributes to a new city where any person may erect a community founded on exchanges with the next person, nature and art. This “PROTO-SPECTIVE” is an exhibition in movement, like all the works presented that only exist with the visitor´s actions: it coincides with the concurrent presentation of major works by the artist at MAMCO (Geneva), UNESCO (Essen), Kunstpalast (Düsseldorf) – a work at the Rhine R. Lehrufer – and F.A.I. Varese (Milano). The exhibition also includes a work specifically produced for Serralves that constitutes a new proposal for a community project that can be constructed in partnership with the inhabitants of Porto: a center for a new person, viewed as a new musician.
