THE RENCONTRES D’ARLES AWARDS

The Rencontres d’Arles 2005 will see more emphasis on the awards. For the first three years the quality of the nominees was excellent, but they had no exhibition. This year each nominee will have a real exhibition for him or herself: 15 exhibitions in all, i.e. a quarter of the festival programme. And the quality and variety of this year's nominators will grab attention all over the photography world.

Established in 2002, the Awards have already become a focal point of the Rencontres d'Arles. This year, the 5 awards, each worth 10,000 euros and financed by the Dakota Group, will be presented on 9th July 2004 at a special evening event that will be one of the festival's high points.

The Awards The Awards have been given a broad sweep, to include all photographers and all artists making use of photography, whatever their way of working and whatever their field: photojournalism, press, fashion, advertising, art, science and so on.
