Juliana Cerqueira Leite sources the content of her artwork from the physical aspects of being, investigating the defining elements of embodiment. Her sculptures engage the history of figurative art re-formulating representation to reflect volition in form. Often products of physically demanding activity, these works reflects the artist’s proportions, limitations and needs. Leite’s practice is directed by sculptural concerns investigated also through performance, drawings, photography and video. Leite makes use of repetitive action schemes such as digging, falling, crawling, combined with intentions, possessing or separating to produce a body of work that presents the unseen forms articulated in everyday interactions.
