press release

From May 27th through July 2nd Joep van Liefland (1966, Utrecht) presents ELECTRIC SHOWROOM.

Besides video spaces Joep van Liefland also builds showrooms. Within the ‘showroom concept’ elements from Video Palace installations are being recycled and regrouped.

Van Liefland has made his name with his project of 4 years Joep van Liefland’s Video Palace, a video installation/ franchise activity. Video Palace began as an illegal trash videotheque in an old, squatted garage in Berlin-Mitte. From then on, it popped up in various places and in a constantly alternating appearance. Joep van Liefland is always the manager, who for Video Palace has collected video-tapes from the pits of the entertainment industry. Last year Joep van Liefland organised a Video Palace tape collecting action at De Praktijk.

ELECTRIC SHOWROOM evokes the ambience of a cheap discount enterprise. Within its framework are video-cabins with Van Liefland’s own latest productions and a video testing corner. Moreover parts of his filmstill-archives and posters for his own films can be seen here.

Joep van Liefland lives and works in Berlin.
