press release

"I need a radical change" presents contemporary art scene from Kosova in relation to specific international context of ethnical conflict zones exposed to the processes of post-war normalization. The exhibition is focused on similarities of structural conditions and preoccupations that are critically challenging national obsessions using cultural and artistic production as a kind of way out and a possibility of dialogue. By relating works of the artists from Kosova, Zagreb, Istanbul, Sarajevo and Dyarbakir, I need a radical change does not insist on parallels or on homogeneity of different national and cultural identities, but attempts to avoid their inevitably narrow paradigms and prejudices. The crucial question of national and territorial sovereignty is relocated in the sphere of art understood as a field in which different imagination of these categories is still possible.

I need a radical change takes place in the context of In the Cities of the Balkans, the 2nd part of the Balkans trilogy, a project initiated by the Kunsthalle Fridericianum
