press release

‘Landed here yesterday... we headed towards Narita airport to visit an artist’s house cum studio. It was a little apartment, but all apartments here are little, so it was probably a massive apartment. All the books were colour coordinated which was quite inspirational. Then we went on to the store. It’s got different themes on every floor. We have a really nice display for AW 2006-7. We talked a lot about our designs. We drove back to Tokyo to have lunch in Aoyama, a very cool neighbourhood. They gave me some crackers, some sweets and a fortune cookie – ‘You will find beauty in ordinary things’. How to do White is an experimental collaboration between Glasgow-based artists Lisa Gallacher, Hannah Hewetson and Fiona Jardine which points to the place where fine art and fashion, desire and repulsion, surface and substance, cross, collide and diverge. With painting, drawing and installation, the works layer upon and reference each other, putting notions of style, trend-setting and cultural cliché centre stage to comment on the design of convention and the convention of design.
