HIGH TIDE

The exhibition presents the work of young- and mid-generation artists from Australia and New Zealand who have already gained some international recognition. It is the first so comprehensive a presentation of art from the region in Poland and Lithuania. The exhibition and the accompanying catalogue aim at reflecting the changes occurring in the culture of the two countries in the recent years, determined by social and political shifts (including the issue of multiculturality), the development of new technologies, and a growing opening up to the international art market. The exhibition features renowned artists such as Tracey Moffatt, Patricia Piccinini, Destiny Deacon, or Bill Culbert, as well as younger-generation artists whose work has already been recognised. High Tide brings painting, sculpture, sculptural and video installations, and photography.

The works arrange themselves into three thematic groups: in the circle of popular culture, suburbian stories (including the issue of peripherality), and visions of the future.

The curators are Magda Kardasz for Zach´ta National Gallery of Art and Simon Rees for the CAC in Vilnius, critic and curator, who earlier worked in Australia and New Zealand, where he comes from.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body and has been supported by Creative New Zealand Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.
