press release

This exhibition presents recent works by two well-known, Danish video artists, Hanne Nielsen and Birgit Johnsen. One of the films, entitled Blindgang (Walking Blind), was shot by a blind woman and her seeing-eye dog. The film focuses on the shifts and separation of picture and sound that occur: Things are not heard and seen at the same time, and the images do not necessarily show what is being described verbally. The other work, Replay, is shown on several screens. Ordinary surveillance cameras follow a couple, recording their daily activities and conversations. The whole thing has a routine, everyday quality, like a reality show. At the same time, the same scenes and the same dialogue are shown shot with professional actors, in colour, using zoom and a cinematically conscious, handheld camera. This double perception poses questions concerning the documentary eye as well as the objectivity of the camera, and the organization of our everyday life. Pressetext
