Chuck CloseRecognized as the artist who has most radically transformed contemporary portraiture, Chuck Close is an internationally renowned American painter, printmaker and photographer who, since the 1960s, has explored countless approaches to his subject.

A Couple of Ways of Doing Something is a challenging exploration of diverse photographic techniques and processes that transcend any one medium. This exhibition focuses on his stunning daguerreotypes, crisp digital prints, rich photogravures, and monumental tapestries celebrating the depth and complexity of the human face.

The exhibition presents a selection of recent portraits of his circle of friends who have made appearances in his paintings over the years, including influential artists Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, Andres Serrano, Lorna Simpson, and Robert Wilson as well as Chuck Close himself, all enhanced by the evocative poetry of New York School poet Bob Holman.
