press release

Opening: February 15, 6:30pm

La Kunsthalle Mulhouse is pleased to be presenting in the echoes of my room a solo exhibition by Ane Mette Hol.

in the echoes of my room is the title of Ane Mette Hol’s first solo exhibition in a French gallery for contemporary art.

Ane Mette Hol will reveal a selection of artworks, some of which were produced for La Kunsthalle and will be presented for the first time.

Ane Mette Hol is a Norwegian artist born in 1979 in Bodø. She uses drawing to confront the relationship between originals and reproductions. Her precise, patient work includes many types of paper: kraft paper, photocopies, silk paper, printed or plain cardboard… Like a copyist, she reproduces the texture and materiality of each of her objects so closely that she produces facsimiles, which she combines with the raw, unadorned settings of her installations.

The objects which interest Ane Mette Hol are often simple and everyday. Their point in common is a link with the history of paper and printing. She observes and captures apparently uninteresting objects, which she magnifies through the force and incredible virtuosity of her drawing.

There will be a selection of events during the exhibition, including conferences and performances.

Ane Mette Hol lives and works in Oslo. She studied at Oslo National Academy of the Arts and then at Stockholm University College of Arts, Crafts and Design from 2001 to 2006. She has exhibited widely in Norway and internationally, and her work was recently presented at Städtische Galerie Delmenhorst, Franz-Josefs-Kai 3 in Vienna and Taxispalais in Innsbruck. Hol’s work features in the collections at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2016, she was part of the Wiels residency program, in Brussels.

This exhibition benefits from the generous support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
