The Catanzaro Art MARCA Museum, born in March 2008. The exhibition house offered by the Catanzaro Province is placed in the heart of Catanzaro historic city centre in an ancient building dated back to the beginning of the 20th century. The structure, which in the past had been a school for deaf-mute students and a typography, has been restored especially for this purpose.

The MARCA Museum is a centre designed to host the arts, not just art, according to a fundamental difference. The Museum combines a plurality of subjects in a context where it is possible to discover experiences from any period regarding different styles and languages.

The building is organized in three floors and includes a wide patio and e terrace balcony which overlooks the city.

The MARCA is a multi-function museum where various artistic experiences may take place, ranging from ancient forms of art to the contemporary language expressed in each one of its forms.

The whole building of more than one thousand square metres and on three floors, has been organized according to a series of goals that make it a unique experience: it enhances the significant collection of paintings and sculptures dated from the 17th century to the end of the 19th century and coming from the Catanzaro territory; carries out great projects involving the most important protagonists of the national and international scene; as well as promoting contemporary art in its many aspects.

The MARCA is not just an eminent museum, but, thanks to the Catanzaro Province support, it also wants to be the production place for art and culture within which architecture and design, music and theatre, cinema and poetry can dialogue.
