In conjunction with the Abbas Kiarostami (Iranian, born 1940) theatrical retrospective and Media Gallery installation at The Museum of Modern Art, P.S.1 presents the premiere of the installation Summer Afternoon (2006), together with selections of photographic works from two series of photographs: Trees and Crows (2006) and Snow (1978–2003). Abbas Kiarostami: Image Maker also features a smaller representation of photographs from the celebrated series Roads (1978–2003) and from a new work entitled Rain (2006). In Kiarostami’s films, the camera is often motionless, demonstrating the link between his prolific photographic activity and his cinematic endeavors. Internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s foremost contemporary film directors, Kiarostami’s reputation as an art photographer has grown steadily since he commenced exhibiting internationally in the mid-1990s.
