A holi-city #02 Yona Friedman + Rajan V. Ritoe

Das zweite Ausstellungsprojekt EURO-CITY der Ausstellungsserie A holi-city widmet sich dem Austausch des international bekannten ungarisch-französischen Architekten und Theoretikers Yona Friedman (Paris) mit dem niederländischen Architekten Rajan V. Ritoe (Delft). Friedman und Ritoe repräsentieren drei Architektengenerationen. Friedman erklärte in einem Gespräch mit Ritoe, dass der Prozess der Aneignung und Transformation seiner Ideen für ihn sehr bedeutend ist. Laut Friedman muss Architektur improvisiert werden. Die Ausstellung zeigt eine aus Kaninchendraht, Schnüren und Klebestreifen “improvisierte“ Installation, zusammen mit Friedmans neuesten Zeichnungen Metropole Europe und Ritoes Filmclips aus jenem Interview, das Friedmans freie Denkweise erläutert. Die Idee der Ville Spatiale, die über verschiedenste Städte schwebt, begleitet Friedman seit 1958. Diese Architekturphilosophie stellt die Bedürfnisse der Bewohner in den Mittelpunkt und begreift Architektur immer auch als emanzipatorische Struktur. Basierend auf deren Grundlage, thematisiert Friedman in Metropole Europe die aktuellen globalen Zusammenhänge und Auswirkungen von Klima, Wissenschaft, Technik, Transport und anderen Infrastrukturen. Rajan V. Ritoe, der die Erforschung des komplexen Stadtkontextes, sowie globaler hybrider Zustände und Situationen betreibt, kommentiert die Ideen Friedmans und tritt in einen filmischen Dialog. Die gemeinsam für den Ort entwickelte Installation EURO-CITY eröffnet uns einen holistischen Ausblick auf die Metropolen des 21. Jahrhunderts und verkündet ein neues Maß an Selbstverantwortung und Kommunikation - einen neuen Lebensstil. Die Installation wird in einem Workshop (10.-16.4.) mit Hilfe von Architekturstudenten der TU Delft entstehen. Begleitet wird die Ausstellung von einem Happy Talk mit Rajan V. Ritoe, der seine Dokumentation über Yona Friedman zum ersten Mal in Deutschland zeigen wird.

The EURO-CITY-project is the second exhibition in the series A holi-city and presents an exchange between the internationally known Hungarian-French architect and theoretician Yona Friedman (Paris) and the Dutch architect Rajan V. Ritoe (Delft). Friedman and Ritoe represent three generations of architects. Friedman explained in an interview to Ritoe, that the process, in which his ideas have been assimilated and transformed by others, is of major importance to his work. In Friedman‘s view, architecture has to be improvised. The exhibition shows an “improvised“ installation of wire mesh, ties and tape, in combination with Friedman’s brand-new sketches about Metropole Europe, but also Ritoe’s looped film-clips of the interview in which Friedman’s free thinking is explained. Since 1958 the image of the Ville Spatiale hovering over different cities captivated Friedman’s thinking and philosophy of architecture that centers on the needs of residents, and which always conceptualizes architecture as an emancipatory structure. Based on the premises of Ville Spatiale, Friedman’s Metropole Europe thematizes the global interconnections and effects of climate, science and technology, transport and other infrastructures. Rajan V. Ritoe – whose work is dedicated to investigating the complexity of urban context in global conditions and situations – offers a commentary on Friedman’s ideas and engages in a filmic dialogue with Friedman. The co-work and site- specific installation EURO CITY opens up a holistic perspective onto the 21st- century metropolis and heralds a new degree of individual responsibility and new levels of communication – and ultimately a new way of life!

The installation is built up with the help of students from Delft Technical University (workshop April 10 -16).

A Happy Talk with Rajan V. Ritoe combined with the film première of Ritoe’s documentation about Yona Friedman accompany the exhibition.
