UÝRA (Emerson or Uýra Sodoma, b. 1991, Santarém/Brazil) is a cross-gender and cross-species artistic persona, an indigenous visual artist, performer, biologist, activist and art educator. The artist is also known as "the walking tree" or "the tree that walks" who uses organic elements (such as foliage, bark, fibers, feathers, and natural dyes) to create elaborate costumes that blur conventional divisions between humans, animals, and plants.
UÝRA lives in Manaus, an industrialized territory in the middle of the central Amazon, where he transforms into a being between animal and plant, who works to make visible and heal systemic colonial diseases.
