Shūji Terayama (born 1935 in Hirosaki/Japan, died 1983 in Tokyo) was an avant-garde poet, film and theater-maker. In 1967 he founded the street theater ensemble Tenjo Sajiki with a group of runaway school girls and boys, who played with breaching taboos and psychic violence in order to investigate stereotypes and interpersonal relationships.
