Sir Nicholas Serota (1946) studied Economics at the University of Cambridge and art history at Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. 1973 he became Director of the Museum Modern Art, Oxford. 1976 he was made Director of the Whitechapel Gallery, London and 1988 Director of the Tate Gallery, London (now Tate Britain). He managed the expansion of the Tate Gallery and the conversion of the former Bankside Power Station to create Tate Modern.
