Henri Rousseau (Le Douanier, born 1844 in Laval, died 1910 in Paris) was a customs officer of the City of Paris since 1869. He participated at several Salons des Independants in Paris since 1885 and met Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Redon, Seurat, Pissarr, Alfred Jarry, Picasso and Apollinaire.
