Germano Celant (b. 1940, Genoa / Italy; d. 2020, Milan / Italy) was an art historian, art critic, and thought leader of Arte Povera. Like Harald Szeemann he pioneered curatorial work. In 1988 Celant became a senior curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Since 1993 he has been artistic director of the Fondazione Prada in Milan and in 1997 curator of the Venice Biennale. In 2013, in collaboration with the artist Thomas Demand and the architect Rem Koolhaas, he curated the exhibition 'When Attitudes Become Form' at the Fondazione Prada in Venice, a replica of the exhibition curated by Harald Szeemann in 1969 at the Kunsthalle Bern. Germano Celant studied at the University of Genoa.
