Georges de La Tour (Georges du Mesnil Latour, b. 1593, Vic-sur-Seille/Lorraine, France; d. 1653, Lunéville/Meurthe-et-Moselle, France) was a Baroque painter. He painted night pictures by candlelight. In 1639 he became court painter to the king. Famous works are: "The Hurdy-Gurdy Player," 1630; "The False Player," 1635; "The Woman with the Flea," 1640; "St. Mary Magdalene Meditating Before a Skull," 1640/45.
