Felix Gonzalez-Torres (born 1957 in Guaimaro/Cuba, died 1996 in Miami/Florida) studied at Pratt Institute of Art in New York and participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program. He had solo exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum New York (1995), Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1996); Sprengel Museum Hannover (1997); Serpentine Gallery London (2000); Museum of Modern Art New York (2009); Whitney Museum of American Art New York (2009); Fondation Beyeler Basel (2010); Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt (2011); Plateau Samsung Museum of Art Seoul (2012); The MAC, Belfast (2014; Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York (2016); amongst others. 2007 he represented the United States at the Venice Biennale, curater was Nancy Spector.
