Emily Jacir (b. 1970, Bethlehem/Palestine) is an artist and filmmaker.
For her works, including film, video, photography, sculpture, installation, and performance, she uses archival footage and historical research, as well as subjective or biographical narratives. They unearth stories that have been silenced. In her works, she depicts banal traces of violent dispossession in everyday life as well as extraordinary stories of resistance.
Her works were shown at documenta Kassel in 2012; and at Venice Biennale in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
Emily Jacir studied at Memphis College of Art, Memphis; and at University of Dallas in Irving and participated at the Whitney Independent Study Program. She is the founder and director of Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art and Research in Bethlehem, Palestine and she teaches at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York, and the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation in Abu Dhabi.
