Daniel Buren (b. 1938, Boulogne-Billancourt/France) lives in Paris. He is a conceptual insitu installation artist and is considered a radical reformer of contemporary art. At the end of the 1960s, he declared 8.7 cm wide vertical strips as the basic material of his art, always referring to the event space. Together with Olivier Mosset, Michel Parmentier and Niele Toroni, he was a member of the group BMPT. They reduced painting to its basic geometric structures and achieved attention through actionist spectacles. In 1971, Buren conceived one of his large-scale in situ works for an exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museu
