Charles Esche

Charles Esche (born 1962 in England) is a curator and critic and the museum's director of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. He is the co-founder and co-editor of Afterall Journal and Afterall Books with Mark Lewis. 1993 to 1997 he was the Artistic Director at Tramway, Glasgow; 2000 to 2004 he was the director of the Rooseum Center for Contemporary Art, Malmo. He co-curated the 2nd RIWAQ Biennial, Ramallah along with Khalid Rabah; the 9th International Istanbul Biennial together with Vasif Kortun; the 2002 Gwangju Biennial with Hou Hanru and Song Wan Kyung. 2014 he was the curator of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo.
