Ellegood describes her selection of works: Every one of these artists has something to put forward about the world—their observations, experiences, criticisms, and passions—and yet each one does so in his or her own way. This makes for an astonishing variety within this shared belief in the capacity for art to help us understand our lives.
Anne Ellegood is Curator at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden where her focus is contemporary art. Fall 2006, she organized the exhibition, Uncertainty of Objects and Ideas: Recent Sculpture which included the work of Isa Genzken, Franz West, Mark Handforth, Rachel Harrison, Charles Long and others. She was the New York-based Curator for Peter Norton’s private collection from 2003-2005. From 1998-2003, she was Associate Curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art where she organized Out of Site: Fictional Architectural Spaces; Superficial: The Surfaces of Architecture in a Digital Age; Marco Brambilla: Halflife, and Candice Breitz: Babel Series, among several other exhibitions. Ellegood has served on numerous panels and juries for a range of organizations, including SculptureCenter, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, and Socrates Sculpture Park, and has lectured widely on contemporary art and curatorial practice. She recently organized Directions: Jim Lambie at the Hirshhorn. Ellegood received her Master’s of Art from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and has taught at Bard’s CCS, Rhode Island School of Design, School of the Visual Arts, and George Washington University.
