Jordi Colomer

Dans nombre de ses installations vidéo où l'architecture et la ville contemporaine apparaissent comme une toile de fond fictive, Jordi Colomer, s'interroge sur la façon dont l'urbanisme influence le comportement humain et explore ainsi l'omniprésence et les inconvénients du modernisme dans le paysage urbain.

Attentif aux aspects sociologiques, psychologiques et philosophiques, mais aussi aux dérapages, aux incongruités ou aux évidences trop oubliées du quotidien, Jordi Colomer nous parle avec beaucoup de lucidité critique des petits riens de la vie, de ses grandes interrogations sur la différence et le malaise qu'elle suscite ou des rapports entre l'architecture et la ville.

Cette exposition va donner une large place aux installations de Jordi Colomer, comme Simo (1997), Le Dortoir (2002), Anarchitekton (2002-2004), (a crime) (2004), et va également présenter des œuvres plus récentes produites spécialement pour cette occasion.

This exhibition provides a wide scope of Jordi Colomer's long-range work on the relationship between human beings and the modern urban environment. In his videos, as well as in a tailor-made staging for Jeu de Paume, Colomer shows how Architecture plays the role of a medium.

In many of his video installations, in which contemporary architecture and cityscapes serve as the setting for a fiction, Colomer (born Barcelona, 1962) studies the way in which the modern city influences human behaviour. He explores the ubiquity and drawbacks of modernism in the urban environment.

Attentive to the sociological, psychological and philosophical dimensions of his subject, but also to the overlooked, weird or incongruous aspects of the everyday, Colomer speaks with great critical lucidity of life's small print, of the question of difference and the unease it engenders.

His installations feature prominently, among them Simo (1997), Anarchitekton (2002-2004) and a number of recent works that have been produced for the event, as En la Pampa (2007), Pozzo Almonte (2008).
