David Goldblatt: Intersections

David Goldblatt (geb. 1931 Randfontein (RSA), lebt in Johannesburg ) hat in seiner Arbeit die sozialen und politischen Strukturen sowie die gesellschaftlichen Spannungen Südafrikas vom Beginn der Apartheid bis in die Gegenwart als Fotograf und Autor dokumentiert und analysiert. Dabei entstand ein beeindruckendes fotografisches Zeugnis der südafrikanischen Kultur, gleichzeitig ein überzeugender Korpus an Arbeiten, die David Goldblatt zu einem der bedeutendsten dokumentarisch arbeitenden Fotografen der Gegenwart machen. Mit der aktuellen Werkgruppe der "Intersections" verlässt David Goldblatt einerseits die SW-Fotografie, andererseits führt er die Untersuchung darüber fort, in welcher Weise die Ideologie der Apartheid nachhaltig die Städte und besonders die Landschaft Südafrikas überformt hat.

In his work as a photographer and author, David Goldblatt (b. 1931 Randfontein (RSA), lives in Johannesburg) has documented and analysed the social and political structures and the social tensions of South Africa from the beginning of Apartheid to the present. The result is an impressive photographic record of South African culture and, at the same time, a conclusive body of works that make David Goldblatt one of the most important contemporary documentary photographers. With his current group of works, "Intersections", David Goldblatt leaves behind b/w photography while continuing his investigation of how Apartheid ideology has profoundly influenced the cities and particularly the landscape of South Africa.
