Atelier van Lieshout: ‘Hagioscope’

26.07.2020 - 31.05.2021

As the first work of art in a new series of annual commissions, Atelier Van Lieshout's Hagioscoop is on display in our museum garden from 26 July. This functional sculpture from 2012, reworked especially for MDD, is a farmhouse from the imaginary year 0, in which mankind lives in a utopian connection in which rituals and self-sufficient agriculture and industry are central.

Hagioscoop was the first sculpture designed by AVL for the modular total artwork under the title New Tribal Labyrinth and includes a sleeping area, kitchen, stable and workspace. The word Hagioscoop refers to a ’squint' through which one could see the altar from the outside of some churches.
