press release
The exhibition AAVV: 30, which inaugurates the new, extended and renovated space of the GALLERIA FUMAGALLI on the coming 27 November, sets out to generate some fundamental thinking about the work that has been done since 1992 and at the same time to point in some new directions.
The gallery inaugurated its current venue in 1996 with a group exhibition of the artists who had been working with it until then, including Carla Accardi, Piero Gilardi, Bruno Munari, Gianfranco Pardi, Pino Pinelli, Giuseppe Uncini, Enrico Castellani and Emilio Scanavino.
Considering the gallery’s work to the present day (1992-°©2004), we decided to expand this inaugural exhibition by also inviting some artists with whom we have had solid, fertile relations in the past, but who are now partly or completely in retirement.
Meanwhile, the consistent work of exhibitions, publications and archiving undertaken by the gallery in recent years, which is destined to generate many more results in the years to come, is represented here by, among others, such artists as: Enrico Castellani, Giuseppe Uncini, Agostino Bonalumi, Marco Tirelli, Gianfranco Pardi, Nunzio, Chiara Dynys, Jannis Kounellis, Peter Wüthrich and Giorgio Griffa.
A foretaste of future programmes comes from other artists with whom the gallery has recently started working systematically. The artists with whom the gallery will be organising integrated exhibition and publication projects are: Maurizio Nannucci, Lawrence Carroll, Richard Wilson and Mauro Staccioli. Some other works have been chosen from the gallery’s own private collections.
The past, present and future of an activity based primarily on the desire to support and disseminate the image of Italian art: late fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties.
In future, the gallery’s aim is to build further on its cultural commitment, embarking on new partnerships with additional artists and critics, also looking outside Italy’s borders, enhancing its already considerable publishing activities (in the last ten years, it has produced more than 50 titles, including several reasoned catalogues, editions for museums and volumes produced in partnership with prestigious publishers) and further perfecting the care of the archives of Enrico Castellani, Giuseppe Uncini, Agostino Bonalumi and Giorgio Griffa whose management it is proud to hold.
