Hannah Ryggen

Hannah Ryggen (b. 1894, Malmö, Sweden; d. 1970, Trondheim, Norway) was one of Scandinavia's most outstanding artistic figures of the 20th century. She lived in a self-sufficient farm on the west coast of Norway and created monumental tapestries in which she dealt with fascism and Nazism, criticized the execution of the Communist Herrmann or the invasion of the Italians in Ethiopia or the Vietnam War. In 1964 she represented Norway at the Venice Biennale and in 2012 she participated in the documenta 13 in Kassel.
