Ewa Partum (b. 1945, Grodzisk Mazowiecki/Poland near Warsaw) has lived in Berlin since 1984, working with film, video, installations, poetry, linguistic art, performances and actions. In the 1960s she was part of the Polish avant-garde of conceptual art. Since the 1970s she has been at the forefront of feminist art in Europe. At the end of the 1960s, she began experimenting with language and text. In the early 1980s, during the period of martial law in Poland, she protested against oppression and imprisonment in conjunction with the Solidarność trade union. She often used her own naked body in her artistic and social actions.
Ewa Partum studied at College of Fine Arts in Lodz and at the Academy of Arts in Warsaw.
