Jean-Antoine Watteau (b. 1684, Valenciennes/France; d. 1721 Nogent-sur-Marne/France) was a painter and draftsman of the Rococo period. He painted genre and theater scenes. In 1717 he became a member of the Académie française. Important works are: "Arlecchino and Colombine," 1715; "The Embarkation to Kythera," 1717; "The Love Feast," 1720; "Gersaint's Shop Sign," 1720.
