Geschmack

GESCHMACK – der gute, der schlechte und der wirklich teure um die Funktionen und Möglichkeiten einer traditionellen staatlichen Kunsthalle zu diskutieren, widmet sich die Auftaktausstellung dem Thema Geschmack. Gezeigt werden neben einem Exkurs in die Zeit um 1800, als die ersten öffentlichen Bildergalerien in Deutschland eingerichtet wurden, vorwiegend Positionen zeitgenössischer Künstler, wie Katharina Grosse, Josephine Meckseper, Anselm Reyle, Zhou Tiehai oder John Bock.

Im Zentrum des neuen Programms der Staatlichen Kunsthalle Baden-Baden unter der Leitung von Johan Holten steht die Frage, wie sich der öffentliche Auftrag einer staatlichen Kunsthalle im 21. Jahrhundert gestalten lässt. Wer meint, dass Kunst nicht nur Genuss bedeutet, sondern auch einen wichtigen Beitrag zu gesellschaftlichen Debatten liefern kann, muss den Versuch wagen, diesen Beitrag am Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts neu zu definieren. Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 9. Oktober zu sehen.

TASTE – the good, the bad and the really expensive the first exhibition will investigate notions of Taste in the context of the functions and possibilities of a publicly funded Kunsthalle. Landscape painting from around 1800, when the first public museums in Germany were founded, will be the emphasis of one section of the show. The main focus however will be on works of contemporary artists such as Katharina Grosse, Josephine Meckseper, Anselm Reyle, Zhou Tiehai or John Bock.

The focal point of the new program of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden with its director Johan Holten will be the question, how the public mandate of a state-run institution can be understood in the 21st century. Those who think that art is more than pure aesthetic pleasure, must also confront the question of how artistic practice can involve itself into public and social debates, and how the mandate of a public institution can contribute to this effect. The exhibition will remain on show until October 9th.
