Die Krumme Lanke im Berliner Süden ist im Sommer ein beliebter Ausflugsort und Badesee. Im Winter friert der See zu, es wird still und die Zeit geht langsamer. Krumme Lanke - this side of the lake ist eine Dokumentation der sich im schwächer werdenden Licht vom Nachmittag bis zur Dämmerung verändernden Landschaft: sonnig und kontrastreich, klar und kalt, diesig und schemenhaft. Die australische Künstlerin Anna Steele kam im Sommer 2010 als Gast der takt artist residency nach Berlin - und blieb dann für länger in der Stadt.

Krumme Lanke - this side of the lake

Krumme Lanke lies in the south west of Berlin, about 15 km from the city centre. It is a popular swimming spot in the summer for Berliners, however, during the winter months the lake freezes over, the land goes quiet and time seems to slow down. With damp feet and numb fingers, I took a few photographs on site but the feeling and the memory of the day holds strong as a place to paint from. This body of work is a painterly documentation of the changing light throughout the afternoon until dusk.
